Inspired by the miracle-working pillar fresco in the Cathedral of St Laurence, Perugia, 16th c.
Mary is portrayed as pregnant with the Christ Child - the ‘Madonna del Parto’. She raised her hands in prayer for all as the great intercessor with the divine. Prayers by expantant mothers are addressed to this sacred image to this day.
